Then we all met back up at the house. The guys spent the afternoon playing poker while the girls caught up and lounged in the pool. Perhaps it was all of the beer and margaritas, but when we first started smelling something burning, none of us were too upset. It was coming from the main master bedroom and smelled electrical - perhaps a light bulb burnt out or bathroom fan had a short. We were all outside with the doors to the pool area open and every once in awhile the breeze would smell a little smokey. Eventually we decided to check it out again and yes, something we definitely burning in the walls of the house and it smelled electrical. About that time, the lights quit working in the master bedroom. We called the owner of the house who came right over. She immediately called an electrician. The electrician checked things out...and decided we needed to call the fire department! By now the lights in other areas of the house were no longer working and it was smelling pretty bad. My Mom has some great pictures of the firemen coming in the house in their fire suits with us still playing poker and drinking at the pool! In the end, we had to pause our party and get out of the house because, yes indeed, it was on fire.
Luckily the owner of the house also managed another house that we could move to. It only had three bedrooms (Jim stuck on the couch again), but was a really nice, beautiful house. Here is the view from the second floor balcony overlooking the pool area. Minor blip in the vacation!
