Our first family race

As if we didn't have enough going on, we decided to participate in the 5k Jingle Bell Family race that the YMCA organizes.  The boys were really excited to get their race numbers just like Daddy does.
Before the race started, the YMCA had other entertainment, including race cars for the boys to drive. Talk about heaven on earth!   I was a little nervous as Jake got in the car, as they actually went fairly fast.  I was amazed how Jake knew just what to do.  He hopped in and put the petal to the medal!  He actually did pretty good.
Zach was more of a Sunday driver just out to enjoy the ride.
Then the race started.   Jake started running as fast as he could.  It took about three bouts of running all out and then taking a break when he couldn't go any farther when he finally broke down and said "Mom, I am never going to be able to pass everyone!"
Um, yea, considering there are about 500 people in front of us and you are four years old, you probably will not win the race.
That devastated Jake who then did not want to finish the race.
Zach had no dreams of winning, he just didn't really feel like walking anymore.
Needless to say, we took a little short cut, went about 3k total and carried the boys about half of it.
But all four of us crossed the finish line running :)
