A few years ago, I received a compost bin for Christmas (and yes, I wanted one). Although theoretically, I was suppose to have rich compost within months, that didn't seem to be the case.
After a good filling of leaves, we left it alone for many months, not adding table scraps, but turning and watering it occasionally.
We were planting our fall garden today (just herbs and cabbage; who knows if the cabbage will grow, but if it does, we will have tons), so I decided to take a look at the bin and found beautiful rich compost! I had about six green buckets full of this good stuff and it seems to be successfully feeding our herbs, cabbage and other outdoor plants.
